Uncommitted: 101,000 in Michigan tell Biden, ‘Ceasefire now!’

The big takeaway in the Michigan primaries Tuesday night was that tens of thousands of voters went to the polls and cast their votes for “Uncommitted,” the option endorsed by a coalition demanding that President Joe Biden change course and come out for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The 50,000-strong United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 3000 had previously called on its members to participate in the ballot action.

‘Move the Money’: Detroit votes for slashing bloated Pentagon budget

Detroit has become the biggest U.S. city so far to pass a “Move the Money” resolution. The unanimously approved measure calls on Congress and the president to shift public money away from the military to fund social services.

Coalition formed to pass NYC Council ceasefire resolution

Efforts have begun in earnest to pass a NYC ceasefire resolution, and the New York Communist Party and YCL is in the mix.

 

Yale Endowment Justice Coalition (EJC) leaders call for weapons divestment

The protest was co-organized by Yale Jews For Ceasefire, Yalies4Palestine, Graduate Students for Palestine and Law Students for Justice in Palestine. Over 25 other organizations have signed onto the EJC’s demands.

81 cities, counties, and First Nations have now called for a ceasefire.

DuPage Township, Ill.Warren, Mich.Harrisonburg, Va.; Northampton, Mass.; Columbia Heights, Minn.; San Juan County, Wash.; Weehawken, N.J.; Taos, N.M.; and Langley, Wash. are among the most recent cities to issue the call. The Great Sioux Nation, Yoruk Tribe and Red Lake Nation have also demanded a ceasefire. Thirteen Democratic Party committees have so far called for a ceasefire at the state, county, Congressional district, or city level.

 

National political support

71 members of Congress, including 6 Senators, have called for a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities. Of those, 18 are co-sponsors of Rep. Cori Bush's resolution. Are your Senators and Reps. signed on? If not, call them today and every day!

State and local electeds

Close to 300 state and local elected officials have urged Biden to immediately call for a permanent ceasefire. Are your local elected officials on the list? If not, tell them to sign on today at bit.ly/CeasefireNowLetter.
